Homologation of Your Imported Vehicle in Belgium
Whether it is an American or a European car, we guide you through every homologation step before registration.
Homologation is the technical compliance certification that proves a vehicle meets Belgian and European standards. For a car that is not originally European, or that has been modified, this step is often required before registration. We guide you through the whole process, together with a certified centre, so your vehicle is ready to be registered.
Three cost components, two parties

What is homologation and why is it needed?
A car sold new in the European Union already has European type approval. A vehicle from outside the EU, such as a US-spec car, does not. Homologation checks and certifies that the vehicle meets Belgian technical standards (lighting, lights, emissions, speedometer, and so on) and then allows registration. Without it, the car cannot legally be put on the road.
Homologation of an American car in Belgium
This is our specialty. American cars almost always need adaptations before they can drive in Belgium: the lights (indicators, tail lights), headlight alignment, sometimes the speedometer from miles to km/h, and other compliance points. We know what a typical US vehicle needs, we coordinate the adaptations with the certified centre, and we guide you all the way to registration.
How long does homologation take?
The duration depends on the vehicle and the adaptations needed. Typically expect [DURÉE TYPIQUE] once the file is complete and the appointment at the centre is set. We give you a realistic estimate as soon as we know your vehicle.
The next step: customs clearance and registration
Homologation usually comes before final registration and the BIV calculation. Once your vehicle is homologated, we continue with customs clearance and registration. For a full overview of import costs, use our cost calculator.
