Import & Logistics

From US auctions to Belgian plates, and from EU sourcing to final delivery, we help make cross-border car buying simpler, clearer, and easier to manage.

Buying a car abroad is only the beginning. After that come transport, documents, taxes, inspections, registration steps, and timing. AutoLink M.A.T. helps clients in Belgium and across Europe manage the process from the practical side, so fewer things are missed and fewer surprises appear later.

Two main import paths

Not every import project works the same way. Bringing a car from the United States is very different from buying one inside the European Union, so it is important to understand the route before making a decision.

USA Import

Importing from the United States is usually the more complex route, but it can also create access to more unique cars, stronger specifications, or better buying opportunities.

EU Import

Buying from another EU country is often simpler because the car is already inside the European market. Even then, buyers still need to think about transport, invoice structure, and whether the deal really makes sense.

How US import works

For many buyers, US import feels complicated because every stage depends on the one before it. The safest approach is to understand the full process before the vehicle is even purchased.

1
Vehicle selection
We help identify cars that match your budget, condition expectations, and end goal. Before moving forward, the vehicle should be reviewed carefully: title status, visible damage, accident history, model suitability, and whether the car is realistically importable into Belgium all matter at this stage.
2
Purchase and export preparation
Once the right vehicle is chosen, the purchase documents and export arrangements need to be correct from the start. Mistakes in invoice details or export handling can create delays later.
3
Shipping to Europe
After purchase, the car is shipped to Europe, usually by RoRo or container. Transit time varies and the route, departure port, and timing all influence the final cost.
4
Customs, VAT, and import duties
When the car arrives from outside the EU, customs formalities begin. Import duty, VAT, and other charges must be understood before purchase.
5
Homologation and compliance
For many US-spec vehicles, Belgian registration is not automatic. Technical changes or homologation work may be needed.
6
Inspection, registration, and final delivery
Once the car is compliant, the final phase includes technical checks, registration preparation, and delivery planning.

How EU import works

Importing a car from another EU country is usually faster and lighter than importing from the USA, but that does not mean it is risk-free.

1
Find the right car
We help search across Germany, Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, Spain and beyond for the right balance of price, condition, mileage, and equipment.
2
Check documents and seller quality
Before money moves, registration papers, invoice structure, ownership situation, and seller credibility must be reviewed carefully.
3
Arrange purchase and transport
Once the vehicle is approved, we coordinate the purchase and transport, whether self-collection or on-land delivery to Belgium.
4
Prepare for Belgian registration
Even within the EU, the correct documents are needed for Belgian registration. Missing papers or unclear invoices can create avoidable delays.

Logistics support beyond the purchase

Importing a car is not only about finding the vehicle. It is also about moving it safely, checking it properly, and keeping the paperwork under control.

Shipping
We coordinate shipping from the United States to Europe and can also support wider international vehicle movement when needed.

On-land transport
Once a car is in Europe, it often still needs to move again. We arrange on-land transport across Europe.

Technical inspection
A technical inspection can reduce risk and help buyers make better decisions, especially when personal inspection is not possible.
Import documents and customs paperwork
Import paperwork and guidance
COC issues, customs files, homologation documents, and registration prep, we help clients understand these steps early to keep the process predictable.

What affects the total import cost

There is no single import price that fits every situation. The final cost depends on the vehicle itself and on everything that happens around it.

  • Purchase price of the vehicle abroad
  • Auction or dealer fees
  • Shipping or transport costs
  • Customs duty and VAT where applicable
  • Homologation or compliance-related costs
  • Inspection, registration, and administration fees
  • Repairs or modifications if required before approval

This is why buyers should never judge an import only by the advertised price of the car. A smart buying decision depends on the full landed cost, not just the purchase number shown in the listing.
